Memorial Day weekend is known as one of the biggest movie debut weekends of the entire year. There is one movie in particular that has definitely put something in the “hair” tonight.
Look, hair it is. Sex and the City 2 may not have been number one at the box office, but the tweets, blog posts, and online articles about the hair styles from SATC2 have been beyond blockbuster. Does this mean that we will be running to our nearest hair salon with a photo of Sarah Jessica Parker off-screen or Carrie Bradshaw on-screen?
Before you start singing, “Gimme a head with hair, long beautiful hair”, all the way to your hairstylist, I’ve got some news for you. In a recent exclusive interview with Elle magazine and SATC2 hair stylist to Carrie Bradshaw, Mandy Lyons shed some light on the infatuation. Even with a lot of Hollywood hair secrets under-wraps, Ms. Lyons provided the “success in the city” and how she used hair-extensions, wigs and other hair accessories to get some of the most coveted hairstyles from the movie.
The brushed-out look that Carrie Bradshaw has throughout the movie is made possible with the help of hair-extensions. Just a couple of months before the movie launched, a reality tv star, Kate Gosslein, showed off her hair-extensions on “Dancing With the Stars” and Jessica Simpson signed-up for her place on the receiving end of the hair-extension craze. Just like most beauty enhancements out there, hair-extensions have some options and not all of them are pretty. Look before your leap and chose wisely.
The first step is to chose either human or synthetic hair-extensions. Second, decide on which process you would like the hair-extensions added to your existing hair. Hair-extensions are added to existing hair by by tracking and sewing (weaving) hair in, fusion hair in, bonding hair in, or clip-in. I am in complete agreement with squidoo.com, as they opted for the clip-in hair-process because it has the least amount of chemicals or heat to the scalp. I’ve had my hair chemically enhanced and those 5 hours of waiting in a hair salon were complete torture. The chemicals made my scalp feel raw and tingly and eyes water. Sure, the hair looked stick straight, but the texture of the hair was very dry. I’m so glad that there are other options available.
Hello Head Coverings. Yes, Carrie Bradshaw and her fab friends take an adventure to another land called Morocco. The fashionista four just had to try out the style of the local Moroccan women and sport turbans and head scarves. Turbans and head scarves were very popular in the 1970s. Once again, women are covering their hair and they are looking for a selection that is chic and fun.
We all need to get by with a little help from…our hairpieces. Ms. Mandy Lyons told elle.com about how she gave Carrie Bradshaw a beautiful, sleek bun. “We create these pieces that can be clipped in very quickly so that when there are rushed changes from one scene to another I can take one piece off and chuck another piece in”. Sounds great, but definitely something I would not try at home. Have you tried hair-extension? Do you own a wig when you feel like having a completely different style?

the best part about owning a wig is the diff styles you get to choose.

I do now own a wig, and have never tried extensions. By the Grace of G_d, I’ve been able to keep my hair natural, dye and product free for 7 years. I do love Bandanaa and headbands though!
I love your tips and contests! So much to learn about hair!
I have pretty long hair but am always wanting extensions for body. I am curious if synthetic hair-extensions have gotten any better. They use to be pretty yucky.
I thought about getting a wig, but I wouldn’t think I could keep one on my head with all the hair I have. I would like to try the hair clips though.

I have never used extensions before, of course my hair is to my waist. My family is really the only ones to see my hair down, as I use coverings for modesty in obedience to the FATHER. Which is why I love your coverings. I use all types, some I make, some I buy from you all. The tichels I use similar to snoods when I want or need to keep my hair loose to dry or because of a headache. Thank you so much for you beautiful coverings.

I too would want a clip in and prefer human hair, I know that it’s super expensive but I like being able to treat it like the rest of my hair
well I guess now what I’ve always liked is popular:)

I love wearing wigs and or other kinds of hair coverings! One day you can wear short and straight and the next long and curly. It’s so fun!
i am not one to do anything to my hair! i brush it, add a covering and i’m done!
I don’t really need hair extensions, and have never tried them. I have thick waist-length hair that’s naturally curly, and I can straighten it or re-curl it any way I’d like- pincurls are my favorite. I used to have a blonde wig, but it was for joke days only. Honestly, if I get bored with my hair, I dye it.
I am a “stuck in the 80′s” girl. However, the sylists that I go to these days have NO clue what “feathered means, so I have long given that idea up. I am growing my hair long again, never thought about a wig, except *ahem* maybe being playful.
Possibly would give hair extensions a try, if someone showed me how without looking like a had a dead animal hanging from my head!
I would LOVE to review your head covers on MY blog but haven’t gotten a reply to any emails…should I resend? I do walk around here in tie-dyed bandanas!
it’s nice to know these styles are actually atainable with a little help.
I appreciate having hair covering options like wigs, headbands, hats and scarves to express myself
my daughter wore hair extensions for her wedding in January… they were fabulous!! I personally wear wigs– some different lengths, in shades from dirty blonde to strawberry blonde to light brown, highlighted.

I don’t think I would be comfortable with extensions in my hair.
A turban might be ok.
I do love a wig at halloween time.
Nope – never have used one and don’t have plans for extensions.
I have super long hair anyhow, so I’ve never thought about having extensions.. I did get a pink extension for Breast Cancer Awareness last year though

Yay!
I’ve always worn my hair long so haven’t worn extensions. I like the idea of being able to switch up your styles with a wig tho.
I love doing different things with my hair

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of a wig. I cut my hip-length hair to the neck this past November, so I really want a long wig to wear until my “real” hair grows back out!
i love the stuff that you have i suggested you to my friend that bought a few things from you and she loves them too

I enjoy having wigs that look like the hair I always wanted
a coworker saw an actress on the TV in our breakroom and said “wow, I wish my hair looked like that.” I told her just to get a wig! The side swept bangs in the style looked like both my wigs anyway.
she thought it would be too hot.
have you guys seen the Sarah Palin wigs? lol!
I really want to try some short wigs! I

I like the headcoverings but don’t watch such movies
My hair has always been thick, so I have never tried extensions. I prefer head-coverings and/or bandannas, whichever I can get my hands on first.
Same as above. I have grown my hair to almost waist length and had it cut off to donate it. It is currently shoulder length and growing long again.
I would love to have different wigs that I could use each day for a new style!
Same as both previous. I love head-coverings and bandannas and headbands. Whichever works best at keeping my hair out of my face, eyes, and mouth.
This is a great blog for someone that needs some “lift” for their hair. Extensions are great for someone that want volume or longer hair. I personally wear sheitels eventhough I have (formerly long) thick hair. Thanks for the blogs!
P.S.Please pick me I lost all of my headbands when I moved. Thanks in advance!!!!!
I have never tried hair extensions. With the medications that I take, it would make it that much more hair that I would have a hard time keeping dry. I have to admit that they do look so natural and enhance the hair of the ladies in Sex and the City 2.

personally I love my hair just how it is. It might not be perfect, because it is super straight, but nothing a curilng iron or rollers won’t fix for the day.
with 3 kids under 3 1/2 i dont do much with my hair
